Lehigh Chair

This is my husband’s Lehigh chair.

This exercise taught about drawing negative space. I was supposed to draw, not the chair, but the spaces around the chair, between the rungs, etc. This is again supposed to take the drawing task away from the left brain that says, “So it’s a chair – so just draw a chair already,” and give it to the right brain, which says, “Look at that beautiful shape.” You are really noticing the shapes, instead of just drawing straight chair rungs. The result should be more beautiful drawings.
