The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Pastel Faces Study

I’ve been trying to improve on my rendering of small faces, for scenes where the face is not the point.  I can do larger portraits, but I’m really struggling here.  I mostly want to barely be able to see them, and yet not have them look idiotic.  The guy in the pink shirt on the left attains this particular goal best, I think.  I’ve had trouble finding help or examples of this goal – what do you Google to avoid three million lessons on precision portraits?

Most of these are from the photos I took of square dancers.  The first three and the three in the bottom right are from other artists.

I will need more practice.
